Chief Inspector Area Commander for Angus, Police Scotland
Ross has responsibility for the delivery of operational policing across the local authority. Throughout the course of his 27-year policing career he has worked across a range of different business areas, in locations all over Scotland.
In the early part of his career he worked in both Dundee, Perth and rural Perthshire gaining experience in both urban and rural Response and Community Policing, being promoted to Response Sergeant in 2013.
In 2015, Ross went on to complete the first of two spells in Executive Support working within the Chief Constable’s Secretariat, based at Randolphfield, Stirling.
On promotion to Inspector in 2015, Ross returned to Tayside Division taking up the role of Detective Inspector, Offender Management Unit, being the Divisional lead for the management of Registered Sex Offenders and other potentially dangerous offenders.
As an Inspector Ross, went on to work in additional roles as a Senior Investigating Officer, in the North Major Investigation Team, leading several high profile homicide investigations in locations all over Scotland, prior to returning to Executive Support as Staff Officer, to the Assistant Chief Constable for the North of Scotland. He also spent a 6 month period in the Brexit Contingency Team, primarily focussed on Police Scotland’s approach to Maritime Security.
On promotion to Chief Inspector Ross again returned to Tayside Division, initially leading the Divisional Coordination Unit prior to completing two and half years as the Dundee Area Commander, before taking up his current posting in August, 2023.
