Arbroath’s £20 Million Investment...
"Get Ready, It’s Happening" Says Minister
Arbroath’s transformation into one of Scotland’s finest seaside towns took a major step forward yesterday, as UK Government Minister Alex Norris MP confirmed that the promised £20 million investment is moving ahead.
During a visit to the town, Norris, Minister for Housing, Communities and Local Government, reassured local leaders that the funding—first announced in the Spring Budget by former Chancellor Jeremy Hunt—remains firmly on track.
Meeting with members of the Arbroath Town Board, Angus Council, and local youth representatives, Norris toured key areas of the town, including the high street and harbour, to see firsthand the impact the investment could have.
Expressing confidence in the progress made so far, Norris said:
“Seeing the consultation boards and meeting with everyone, including members of the youth town board, I’m impressed at how far ahead Arbroath is with its planning. My message to the town is: Get ready, it’s happening. Get on with it and keep doing what you’re doing.”
The £20 million investment will be used to revitalise the town centre, enhance local amenities, and drive economic growth, with the first £2 million of funding expected in April 2026. To unlock this initial tranche, Arbroath must submit detailed funding plans, driven by local priorities, by the end of 2025.
Peter Stirling, Chairman of Our Arbroath, welcomed the minister’s commitment:
“When we started the town board, our goal was to be the hardest-working town board, dedicated to delivering for the community. But we’re only just getting started. This investment is a game-changer for Arbroath, and we’re committed to ensuring it delivers real and lasting benefits.”
As the town moves forward with its vision, the Arbroath Town Board and Angus Council will continue to engage with residents and businesses to shape the future of this landmark regeneration project.
