Today, Graeme Dey MSP joined members of the Arbroath Town Board to open a public display at Arbroath Library. This exhibition showcases the invaluable input of the local community, demonstrating the power of collective voice in shaping our town’s future.
Over 800 individuals, including a substantial number of young people, took the time to share their ideas and aspirations for Arbroath. This resulted in a staggering 2,105 comments and ideas, making it the largest community engagement exercise for any town plan in Arbroath’s recent history. The public display features a selection of the postcards, offering a glimpse into the diverse perspectives and passionate opinions of local residents.
As one of 75 UK towns selected to receive up to £20 million in UK Government funding over 10 years, Arbroath is poised for a transformative future. The newly formed Arbroath Town Board worked tirelessly to develop a comprehensive Long-Term Plan, guided by the community’s feedback. This plan was submitted to the Government before the November deadline, ensuring that Arbroath is well-positioned to capitalise on this opportunity.
The first phase of funding, amounting to £200,000, will be allocated in the financial year 2025/26. This will enable Our Arbroath to further engage with the community and lay the groundwork for future projects. Additionally, the first £2 million of project funding is expected to be available in spring 2026.
