Over the past few months, the Arbroath community has come together in record numbers to share their views, ideas and priorities for our next chapter.
The final community vote alone drew an incredible 2,593 responses, and when added to all other engagement events, a total of 5,178 people have now taken part in shaping Arbroath’s vision. That’s far above the average for other towns applying for the same £20 million investment from the UK Government.
Who is behind “Our Arbroath”?
“Our Arbroath” is led by the Arbroath Town Board, a team of local volunteers who have spent time running workshops, visiting school and community groups, creating surveys and speaking to people out in Arbroath.
Over the summer, the Board’s outreach has included workshops, school visits, online surveys and creative projects. In schools alone, over 1,500 leaflets and post boxes were delivered to gather ideas from young people about the future of their town.

Workshops in May and June brought hundreds of residents together to explore potential projects focused on key themes such as the town centre, harbour, green spaces, community hubs and overnight stays.
What happens next?
The summer’s feedback has painted a clear picture of community priorities. But before final decisions can be made, each idea must be measured against key criteria.
To make sure every penny is spent wisely, an independent cost consultant has been appointed to assess what’s realistic and achievable. This work will take place over the next month.
Once that’s complete, the Board will draft a 4-year plan and a 10-year vision for Arbroath, to be submitted to the UK Government by 28 November.
Arbroath’s future is being written by the people who live here. And with over 5,000 voices already shaping the plan, one thing is certain: this is a community that’s determined to make its mark.
